About:

Dr. Nareswar Sarma is a distinguished General Surgeon based in Assam, widely respected for his clinical expertise, patient-focused care and significant contributions to public health and community services. With over 50 years of professional experience, he currently serves as a consultant General Surgeon  at Nemcare Hospital, Guwahati, where he is recognised as a senior member of the surgical fraternity.
 

Dr Sarma first initiated the minilap cholecystectomy operation for gall bladder stones in Indian oil corporation (AOD) Hospital , Digboi in later part of the 1980s . He designed instruments for this operation on his own and modified some which were made by Dr JN Bhagabati which was locally made in IOCL (AOD) workshop Digboi . He continued to use the  instruments for Minilap Cholecystectomy operations till 2022 with excellent results.

     Dr. Sarma's work extends far beyond the operating room. He has been actively involved in community welfare services across both rural and urban populations. Dr. Sarma established Digboi Pain and Palliative Care Society- a charitable NGO at Digboi, Assam in 2001, purely with the motto of serving the terminally ill and underprivileged cancer patients. Dr. Sarma rendered his yeoman's service to the organization for 25 years and continues to do so since its inception in various capacities (Founder Secretary for first 10 years, as President for next 10 years and now as Chief Adviser). Approx 10,000 terminally ill cancer patients have benefited from this initiative.

     Dr. Nareswar Sarma extends his charitable services even beyond the borders to Nigeria. In 2008 Dr. Sarma joined the team 'Medical Mission to Nigeria' organized by Rotary International for rendering free medical treatment in the remote areas. He was the only Surgeon from the North Eastern States selected for the Mission. Dr. Sarma along with the team was able to treat about 1000 outdoor patients and performed 422 surgeries.

     Dr. Sarma is discharging his duties as General Secretary of Karunadhara Trust 'a movement of compassion' for the last 10 years. The objective of  the organization is to provide financial assistance to those persons with disabilities (PWD) and critically ill poor patients. Till date Karunadhara has donated Rs.4.92 crore to 2883 beneficiaries.

     Dr. Sarma has been actively providing free medical health services to the people of greater West Darrang district for last 11 years who have no access

Dr. Sarma is actively involved in burns regarding its treatment, Prevention and training of doctors, nurses and paramedics

to quality health services and facilities. Dr. Sarma visits the village Byaspara, Sipajhar every second Saturday of each month. Till date, about 12000 patients have greatly benefited.
